Timothy Perez, 44, claims he wasn't driving the boat at the time of the accident, but pleaded guilty to DUI manslaughter in addition to a second felony and a misdemeanor charge.
Perez and his friend, Darren Bigbee, 39, were bar-hopping on Reel Dysfunctional, Perez's 28-foot powerboat the night the accident occurred. The boat was speeding through a no-wake zone when it crashed into the 23-foot boat belonging to Douglas Caramagna. Caramagna, 32, died in the crash and his fiancé was injured. Perez suffered a hip injury. Bigbee, who was also injured in the crash, fled the scene.
Perez was found to have a blood alcohol level of .17 at the time of the accident.
