According to the filing, the three have been exposed to C8, or PFOA, and related materials through water supplied by the Parkersburg Utility Board for at least one year. The water supply is in proximity to DuPont's Washington Works plant.

DuPont released a statement that the lawsuit is without merit, and that the company will defend itself forcefully. DuPont claims that the company has greatly reduced emissions of PFOA from their facilities, including the Washington Works plant across the river from Parkersburg, and will substantially reduce PFOA in products and emissions by 2007.

In the lawsuit, the Parkersburg plaintiffs accuse DuPont of negligence in the operation of the Washington Works plant, resulting in bodily injury, property damage, and emotional distress.
