Michael Anthony Adduci, Sr., 39, was convicted of manslaughter after being found guilty of driving intoxicated and causing the death of 22-year-old Jim Archer. During the accident, which occurred on April 10, 2005, Adduci rolled his 1967 Land Cruiser while speeding down Pistol Hill Road. Adduci suffered a broken neck in the crash while his son, 15, and Jim Archer, 22, were both thrown from the vehicle. Archer died at the scene.
In court, Adduci and his son both testified that Archer was driving. However, Adduci was convicted after evidence was brought forth of a recording between Aducci's son and the 911 dispatcher the morning of the accident where Adduci's son said that his father had been driving.
According to reports, Adduci had a blood alcohol level of 0.18, more than twice the legal limit, at the time of the crash.
Adduci, who has been convicted on two other counts of DUI after causing alcohol-related accidents in 1996 and 1999, has already spent time in jail, had alcohol treatment, and attended DUI Victim Impact Panels.
Before his sentencing, Adduci stated that he did not need treatment, and in response to Archer's death, he told Archer's fiancé to "get over it." His lack of remorse did not help his case. Adduci received a 10.5 year sentence for manslaughter, and sentences totaling 5.25 years, set to run concurrently, for child abuse and endandgerment.
As a result of the accident, Jim Archer's baby, who was born 11 days after the crash, will grow up without a father.
