On June 3, Suzan Putz Drury of Bon Aqua, Tennessee was attacked by several dogs as she was out walking around her neighborhood in the vicinity of McFarlin Road. As the dogs violently bit at her, she screamed for help and attempted to stay vertical, believing that she would sustain fewer injuries if she could remain standing up.
A neighbor, Ronald Johnson, heard Drury's screaming and drove to the rescue in his car. He drove into the pack of dogs to distract them from Drury and pulled her into the car before taking her to the hospital.
Drury required 15 surgical staples and more than 80 stitches to repair the damage done by the dogs.
The owner of four of the dogs, Howard Wayne Reaves, says that his dogs have never shown aggression to him and are friendly towards his children. Three of the dogs are boxers; the other one is a mixed breed. It is possible that dogs other than Reaves' were also involved in the attack.
A sheriff's deputy has cited Reaves, but the fate of the animals rests in the hands of the district attorney, who has filed a petition to have all four dogs euthanized.
