$28 Million Medical Malpractice Verdict Overturned

In April 2006, Florida resident Jeanette Davis was awarded $28 million after undergoing a faulty operation by Bowles that left her with the inability to urinate naturally.

After the verdict, which is one of the largest medical malpractice verdicts in Florida history, defense lawyers investigated the jurors. They found that two had failed to disclose information about previous lawsuits they were involved in. A third told them about one medical malpractice suit that she filed, but failed to mention the other nine cases in which she was a defendant.

After hearing from the three jurors, Nelson determined those deceptions meant Bowles deserved a new trial. She called for a new one and overturned the verdict.
