British and Pakistani officials worked together to bring down the terrorist operation. The proposed plot was to be carried out with liquid explosives that were to be detonated by a remote device, possibly disguised as a cell phone or MP3 player.

Authorities maintain that the explosions would have caused massive casualties, and could have been comparable to the infamous 9-11 attacks. It is believed that as many as 50 individuals were involved in the plot, but authorities are confident that all of the key figures have been arrested.

All over the world, airports are experiencing long delays and cancellations as airline personnel heighten security and implement new liquid carry-on restrictions, which now include beverages, mouthwash, and shampoo. Reactions to the new restrictions have been mixed as frustrated passengers find it even more difficult to board airplanes.

Many civil rights activists fear that security issues will override civil liberties and that it is innocent citizens who will ultimately pay the price for this and other terrorist plots.
