The crash of the Beach Bonanza B36 airplane occurred while it was trying to land at a military airport near Ensenada, approximately 90 miles south of the US-Mexico border. The plane slammed into a factory wall less than an hour after taking off from Brown Field Airport in San Diego, California.

According to witnesses, the plane took a sudden plunge after apparently experiencing trouble in the air.

The victims of the crash were part of a convoy of Christian missionaries on its way to deliver medical aid to the needy.

Among the dead are pilot Robert McEneany of Las Vegas; Merlin James Larson, a dentist from Palm Desert, California; and Brianne Nicole Shelton, a nurse from San Marcos, California.
