The two residents, Matthew Peterson and Ryan Craig, both 21, were arrested on felony drug and firearm charges. Neither has been charged in the shooting death. A visitor, Jerome Bachota, also 21, was booked on misdemeanor drug charges.

According to Rockford Police, a self defense issue has come into play that prevented them from charging Peterson and Craig with the shooting death.

Around 10 p.m. Tuesday night, Brown and another man assaulted a neighborhood resident outside, robbed him, and walked him up to the door of the house at gunpoint. According to police, there were several people inside the house when one heard the commotion and alerted the others.

Craig then confronted the men at the house and shot Brown several times, according to police. The other man fled on foot.

Police said there was a substantial amount of drugs in the house.

Peterson and Craig are being held on $100,000 bail.
