Bentley allegedly sold tainted heroin to 30-year-old Seth Boyd, an autograph dealer and graduate of Delaware State University and Duke University. Boyd suffered a fatal overdose from the drugs.

U.S. attorney Colm F. Connelly said the arrest is a warning to drug dealers that they will be held responsible for selling drugs that kill, even if they don’t know that the drugs are deadly.

Bentley is accused of selling deadly fentanyl-laced heroin. An autopsy determined that Boyd died from respiratory depression due to inhalation of fentanyl.

On May 5, Bentley was stopped by state troopers and arrested after his car was found to contain crack cocaine, 11 grams of powdered cocaine, methadone, hypodermic needles, 140 bags of heroin, and a loaded handgun.

Police investigating Boyd’s death linked the drugs that killed him to Bentley.

If he is convicted, Bentley will face 25 years to life in prison.
