In her suit, Mary Beattie claims her husband Ronald was exposed to asbestos while working as an electrician’s mate, naval instructor, and salesman in California, Colorado, and Illinois. The suit also claims Ronald Beattie was exposed to asbestos through non-occupational activities as well, including automotive work. A total of 40 corporations are named as defendants in the case.

Beattie’s suit says the defendants were negligent in providing inadequate warnings to Ronald about the danger of asbestos-related illnesses he faced from the jobs he performed and the products he used.

One of Beattie’s attorneys said in the complaint that the asbestos exposure was completely foreseeable and should have been anticipated by the defendants.

Ronald Beattie was diagnosed with mesothelioma on Oct. 20, 2004. Mesothelioma is an aggressive cancer, affecting the lining of the lungs and nearly always resulting in death.

Beattie died on Sept. 6, 2005
