The Turkish Airlines flight carrying 113 passengers and crew landed at Italy's Brindisi airport after being hijacked in Greek airspace on Tuesday. The hijacker is reportedly of Turkish descent.

The Turkish transport minister, Binali Yildirim, and the governor of Istanbul say the hijacker was seeking political asylum and may have fooled the pilots into believing he had an accomplice on board the aircraft with him.

After the hijacker forced the plane to land in Italy, he released all passengers and surrendered. There are no reported injuries.
