Steve Parrella, 46, is paraplegic and remains hospitalized as a result of the July 29th incident. The lawsuit filed on his behalf clams engine failure caused the plane to crash soon after takeoff from the airport in Sullivan, southwest of St. Louis.

In addition to engine-maker Pratt & Whitney, the lawsuit names Quantum Leap Skydiving Center of Sullivan, the plane’s pilot and Quantum Leap co-owner Scott Cowan, and others as defendants.

Three other lawsuits have been filed by a Kansas City attorney representing the parents of three crash victims who were killed.

The only other victim to survive the crash was Kimberly Ellen Dear, 21, of Dittmer, Missouri.

A final report from the National Transportation Safety Board is expected next year.
