Shively defrauded investors of nearly $2 million after promising that he would invest their money for them. The money he received from investors ultimately was deposited into his personal investment account.

To complete the scam, Shively created false tax forms and account statements, which he sent to his investors in an effort to bolster their confidence.

Prosecutors claim that the case is very rare in that Shively chose to scam his personal friends.
