The injured were taken to several area hospitals; three people died and not all employees are accounted for. The blast destroyed the two-block-long Falk warehouse and numerous cars in the area, and damaged nearby buildings. The fire spread for several blocks, and the smoke rose hundreds of feet in the air. Construction workers and others in the surrounding area were sent home due to concern about the smoke and spreading fire.

Falk Corp. makes large industrial gears and couplings, and employs about 900 people. Their warehouse was located near a downtown casino. Although the cause of the explosion is not yet known, apparently the company was evacuating workers after a leak was detected in one of the large propane tanks on the property when the blast happened.
