CHP officer Todd Workman reported that around 12:30 on Monday, officers received several 911 calls about a black Mercedes SUV traveling the wrong way on State Highway 134 in Burbank. When officers responded to the scene, Richie stopped in the carpool lane and was talking on her cell phone. She was alone in the vehicle.

Richie then failed a field sobriety test and admitted to officers she had taken Vicodin and smoked pot. California Highway Patrol officers took the 85-pound Richie, 25, into custody without incident.

She was searched, fingerprinted, and photographed, then spend time in a jail cell before being released on $15,000 bail. She was also tested for drugs, though the results of that test have not yet been determined.

Richie faces charges of driving under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs, a misdemeanor offense carrying a sentence of jail time and a $1,000 fine. She has hired the Hollywood attorney Howard Weitzman to represent her.

The daughter of crooner Lionel Richie was reportedly cooperative, humble, and caused officers no problems.

This is not Richie’s first brush with substance abuse. She pleaded guilty to heroin possession in 2003, though the charges were dismissed after she completed the terms of her probation.
