IRS to Reward Whistleblowers

On December 20, President Bush signed a new measure that is designed to help the IRS recover taxes from citizens who owe the government at least $2 million. With this new measure, citizens who identify people owing the government a substantial amount of money may recover a sizeable profit for the risk they take. Lawmakers and IRS officials hope that the hefty financial incentives will prompt more citizens to turn over some of the government’s most egregious debtors. It is estimated that the U.S. Government loses roughly $290 billion every year as a result of tax fraud.
