Man Sentenced to 20 Years in Prison After DUI Death

Stacy pleaded guilty to felony DUI with death resulting, reported 5th Circuit Deputy Solicitor John Meadors.

In the early hours of May 14, 2004, Stacy was driving home after drinking with friends. On Lower Richland Boulevard, he hit 21-year-old Margie Lynn Davis head-on, instantly killing her. David, an emergency medical technician and volunteer firefighter, was on her way to work at the time of the accident.

Stacy had a blood-alcohol concentration of 0.234, Meadors said. The legal limit is 0.08.

During the accident, Stacy’s 1997 Chevrolet crossed the center line and struck Davis’s 1993 Geo Prizm, authorities reported. The collision occurred about a quarter-mile from the neighborhood where both live. South Carolina Highway Patrol investigators estimated that Stacy was traveling 67 or 68 mph in a 45-mph zone at the time of the fatal crash, and that Davis was driving between 25 and 30 mph.

In addition to his jail sentence, Stacy must also pay a $10,000 fine.
