According to the suit, in January 2005, a nurse at the hospital punctured a nerve in Rodney Sawtelle's arm with a needle. As a result, Sawtelle, 76, who runs a heavy equipment garage, is effectively unable to feed himself and cannot complete paperwork or carry out other functions related to his job, his attorney, Scott Lynch, said.

Jurors in the case voted 6-3 in favor of the Wilton couple. Sawtelle was awarded $360,000, and his wife, Frances, was awarded $40,000, Lynch said.

A spokesperson for the hospital could not be reached late Wednesday evening.

The trial was conducted in Franklin County Superior Court.
