John Acerra, 50, the former principle of a Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, middle school was arrested in his school office after allegedly selling methamphetamine to a police informant.

Parents wondering how Acerra’s drug use went unnoticed held a special meeting that was attended by hundreds who discussed reports that the former principle would arrive late and lock himself in his office.

A teacher who knew Acerra for more than a decade said he never saw any strong indication that Acerra used drugs, according to Bethlehem Area School District Superintendent Joe Lewis.

The school has hired an independent firm to conduct an investigation.

The charges Acerra faces include possession with intent to deliver, manufacture, or create methamphetamine; possession with intent to use drug paraphernalia; and possession of a controlled or counterfeit substance.

He is being held on $200,000 bail.
