The suit, filed by Jessica Edwards, says that in October 2002, a Girl's Wear Light-Up Play Shoe came apart, allowing its 1.5-volt button cell batteries to fall out. Edwards' daughter was later found with a battery lodged in her nostril.

The suit alleges that the child suffered severe injuries as a result of the incident. Named as defendants in the suit, Dollar Tree Stores, Toyworlds Toys Co. Ltd, Jaring Inc., Global Innovations LLC, and others are accused of not providing adequate warning and instructions to ensure the safety of consumers.

Edwards is seeking $10 million in compensatory damages.
