Court records state that Crabtree was attacked by a German shepherd that escaped from a nearby property on June 30, 2003. Crabtree was 13 at the time of the incident.

The jury in the case held that Mark Johnson, the dog's owner, should compensate Crabtree for the permanent muscle and nerve damage he suffered to his right forearm during the attack. The damages will be paid to Crabtree and Clinton National Bank, his conservator.

The jury's award includes $11,729 in compensation for Crabtree's mother to cover medical expenses.

The lawsuit was filed by the Crabtrees’ attorney, John Frey, in 2005.
