The plaintiffs in the lawsuit, which was filed in New York State Court, are asking to be reimbursed for the original purchase price of Greenies dental chews purchased between June 2001 and May 22, 2007.

A similar lawsuit was filed last year by 10 pet owners from eight states whose individual wrongful death and product liability suits named the North Kansas City manufacturer of Greenies, S&M NuTec, as the defendant. That suit alleges the manufacturer was aware of the dangers its product posed for dogs, but did not take proper action in removing the product from the market entirely or at least providing adequate warning to consumers.

Mars Inc. has since acquired S&M NuTec and has put out a new Greenies product that, according to the company, contains highly soluble proteins for easier consumption and digestion.
