In the lawsuit, filed Wednesday, the estate of Kent Herzog claims that exposure to the carcinogenic chemical benzene was the cause of Herzog's death.

Herzog died on Nov. 30, 2006, of acute myeloid leukemia.

From 1973 until 2006, Herzog was employed in the kitchen and bath industry, in which he built and installed countertops and cabinets for consumers. His estate claims that exposure to the chemicals, finishes, solvents, adhesives, and lubricants manufactured and sold by the defendants was the cause of his death.

Herzog is survived by his wife, Debra, and his two children, Ryan and Heather. Debra Herzog represents his estate.

Debra Herzog claims that she and her children have been and will continue to be deprived of the services her husband performed for them. In addition, she claims that they are deprived of his love, society, and companionship.

Debra also claims that her husband suffered greatly during his illness, lost wages, and incurred extensive medical bills. She is seeking more than $200,000 in damages.
