Amounts to be awarded have not been disclosed by either side. About 280 policyholders are being represented in the case.

After Katrina caused severe damage to homes, Northbrook, Ill.-based Allstate and other insurers refused to pay out on their policies to the hundreds of policyholders affected in the state. Insurance companies claimed their policies covered wind damage but not damage caused by rising water.

The settlement was negotiated by a lawyer from Scruggs Katrina Group, which also brokered mass settlements with other insurance companies who denied policy holders coverage for Katrina damage.

State Farm Fire & Casualty Co., Nationwide Mutual Insurance Co. and Metropolitan Property and Casualty Insurance Co. are among the insurance companies who settled Katrina damage class action lawsuits.

Scruggs Katrina Group is currently representing plaintiffs in 280 cases against State Farm, over 60 against Mississippi Farm Bureau Insurance Co., and more than 40 against United Services Automobile Association.
