Federal Groundwater Contamination Suit Targets Cargill

By Monica Galvan

Published on June 29, 2007

The suit alleges that chemicals released by the Cargill plant in Grand Island seeped into the groundwater supply and reached many private wells, affecting nearly 200 current and former residents.

In the suit, the plaintiffs cite negligence, nuisance, and wrongful death, claiming that toxins released by the company are linked to illnesses such as lung congestion, organ damage, and deadly cancers.

Cargill used the Grand Island plant to process and store agricultural seed between 1981 and 2000. Representatives from Cargill declined to comment on the pending case.
