More Than $16 Million Awarded in Wrongful Death Case

Gary Carlson was 49 years old when he died of a heart attack in 1994. Carlson's widow accused the Stamford Medical Group and Dr. Robert Goldsmith of failing to properly diagnose and treat cardiac conditions which led to Gary's death, according to a lawsuit she filed. Josh Koskoff, the attorney for the plaintiff, argued that the misdiagnosis of Gary's conditions deprived him of living out the retirement he dreamed of and enjoying time with family. Gary Carlson was working three jobs, including a job driving trucks, to support his family when he passed away.

Kevin Tepas, the defense attorney working on behalf of the Stamford Medical Group and Dr. Robert Goldsmith, denies that any wrongdoing or negligence occurred, and that Gary Carlson's death was not the result of medical malpractice.

A jury awarded Carlson's widow and estate $10 million in 2003, but the defendants appealed.
