After more than two years of pre-trial negotiations and maneuvering, Jonie Cremeens and her lawyer have settled a lawsuit she filed against her health care provider, Dr. Phillip J. Rossi, for damages incurred during a surgical procedure.
In 2002, the plaintiff underwent surgery to have her gallbladder removed. According to the lawsuit filed by Jonie Cremeens, she developed bile peritonitis, an inflammation of the abdominal cavity lining, and required several additional surgeries to correct the problem. Cremeens alleges that Dr. Rossi, who works at the Hopedale Medical Complex, was responsible for the complications by shutting off and injuring her bile duct during surgery, and failing to take necessary precautions and diagnostic tests.
In her original complaint, Jonie Cremeens asked for an amount exceeding $50,000 as compensation for her injuries and the costs incurred as a result of her additional medical care. Neither side has disclosed what the settlement amount is.
