Bender allegedly made an illegal left turn into an intersection just prior to the crash.

The lawsuit, which was filed on December 20 in St. Clair County Circuit Court, names Sydney L. Bender as an individual plaintiff, as a plaintiff acting on behalf of her son, and as a co-defendant in the complaint, which stems from a traffic accident that occurred on January 5, 2006, at the intersection of North Ruby and Lincoln Trail in Fairview Heights.

The suit alleges that Sydney L. Bender negligently and carelessly caused the accident by failing to stop, slow down or swerve to avoid an accident with the ambulance while making an illegal left turn onto North Ruby. The lawsuit also faults the ambulance driver, Jeffrey L. Scott, with driving with excessive speed.

Bender is seeking damages in excess of $50,000 for her son’s medical expenses and ongoing treatment.
