Edmonds, 37, says that while employed by the FBI’s Washington field office to translate intercepted phone calls, she learned of an FBI investigation into a Turkish- and Israeli-run covert network that bought secrets from high-ranking US officials and sold them to countries including Pakistan and Saudi Arabia.
Following Edmonds’ allegations, the civil liberties and human rights group Liberty Coalition filed a freedom of information request with the FBI based on information provided by an anonymous informant who corroborated Edmonds' story. Both Edmonds and the informant identified a document file labeled 203A-WF-210023 as containing information detailing the alleged investigation into stolen nuclear secrets.
The FBI responded to the request by claiming that file 203A-WF-210023 did not exist. However, Edmonds says that the file definitely existed between 1996 and 2002, and London’s Sunday Times claims that it has obtained a document signed by an FBI official that confirms the existence of the file. According to Edmonds, the FBI is deliberately suppressing the file to protect US officials who engaged in criminal activity at the expense of US national security.
Edmonds is subject to state secret gag orders prohibiting her from talking about the the FBI's alleged investigation.
