In the premier episode of "Eli Stone," the title character, an attorney guided by prophetic visions, brings a lawsuit against a pharmaceutical company on behalf of a mother who claims that a preservative called “mercuritol” caused her son’s autism.
The fictional “mercuritol” bears a resemblance to “thimerosal,” a mercury-containing preservative that many believe is linked to autism.
The American Academy of Pediatrics called ABC irresponsible for deciding to air the episode, because the show may influence viewers not to immunize their children.
SafeMinds has asked ABC not to give in to pressure to cancel the episode, which is scheduled to air tomorrow night at 10 p.m. EDT.
