Cook County prosecutor Chad Sabora, 31, was found in his car by the police Wednesday evening in an area of Chicago's South Austin neighborhood that is known for drug dealing. The arresting officers say they saw Sabora pour a white substance onto a CD case and then ingest it as they approached the vehicle. The officers searched the car and discovered five tin foil packets containing a white powder also thought to be heroin.

On Thursday, Sabora was in court for a bail hearing. Assistant State Attorney Edward McCarthy asked for a high bail, arguing that Sabora should be held to a higher standard if the allegations against him are true.

Sabora's attorney, Donald Rendler-Kaplan, sought leniency for his client, saying that he had no prior arrests and was a life-long resident of Cook County.

Circuit Judge Laura Sullivan let Sabora go on a signature bail. Sabora could face up to three years in prison for the charges.

According to the state attorney's office, Sabora has been on unpaid leave since December. Officials there would not explain why Sabora was on leave, however.

Sabrosa joined the state attorney's office in late 2005, and handled juvenile court cases prior to going on leave.
