Billionaire businessman and television personality Donald Trump is suing the City of Rancho Palos Verdes, located in Los Angeles County. He wants $100 million in damages for alleged fraud and civil rights violations.
Trump has had a series of conflicts with the city and its residents since buying property in 2002 and developing a golf course. According to the lawsuit, the city has held Trump to higher standards than other developers in a bid to extend the project and extract higher fees. The city maintains that it is required by law to hold Trump accountable for geological studies and other safety measures related to the landslide-prone property.
In the past, Trump has also been involved in litigation with the school district over land rights, and with nearby homeowners after planting trees to obscure several homes he deemed unsightly. He has also tried repeatedly, and without success, to rename the road leading to the course "Trump National Drive."
