On Tuesday night, Carey Andrew Shaw, a 51-year-old resident of Cheraw, South Carolina, shot Tamara Sellers, 35, in the head and then held her hostage for six hours.

According to authorities, a Cheraw deputy met Sellers at a residence just outside Cheraw around 5:30 p.m.; she had been shot in the head. A SWAT team then observed Shaw, who was near the residence, for two hours before approaching him and asking him to drop a shotgun he was holding. He turned the weapon on himself and resisted arrest, but police transported him to the hospital in stable condition. Shaw and Sellers (who was also taken to the hospital) are both expected to be okay.

Police reports indicate that the attack occurred after Sellers told Shaw she was no longer in love with him.

Shaw is likely to be charged with assault and battery with intent to kill, resisting arrest, and other charges.
