The soon-to-be-ex-wife of oil tycoon J. Paul Getty's grandson says she needs at least $314,727 every month to maintain the lifestyle her husband has provided her for the last ten years. She has also asked a judge to order her husband to pay $450,000 to fund her side of the coming divorce battle.
Jacqueline Getty is suing Gordon Peter Getty, Jr., in Los Angeles Superior Court. The respondent's father has an estimated worth of $2 billion, placing him at No. 158 in the Forbes list of the 400 wealthiest Americans. His fortune is based on the sale of Getty Oil to Texaco in 1968.
Attorneys' and Accounts' Fees Wanted to Level Playing Field
Mrs. Getty told the judge in the case that she needs $350,000 to hire attorneys and $100,000 for accountants, to level the playing field in court. Her husband has hired attorney Laura Wasser, whose specializes in representing celebrities like Kiefer Sutherland, Britney Spears, and Angelina Jolie.
The list of minimum monthly expenses submitted to the court includes:
- Clothing and accessories: $33,697
- Jewelry: $10,717
- Leasing, registering and maintaining two cars: $7,495
- Cell and home phone service: $956
- Parking fines and bridge tolls: $252
Annual $50,000 Halloween Party Included in Demands
Divorce papers also included requests for $50,000 for the petitioner's annual Halloween party and access to the Getty compound in Hawaii and the Getty Boeing 737 private jet.
In addition to her own expenses, Mrs. Getty wants $5,951 per month to pay the bills of her 23-year-old daughter Gia Coppola, granddaughter of moviemaker Francis Ford Coppola. The petitioner claims her husband was supporting her daughter at the time of filing and should continue to do so.
To make the point that Getty won't miss the money she wants, Mrs. Getty's filing included examples of some of her husband's extravagance, including keeping valuable paintings in storage and going on vacation without luggage, buying a complete wardrobe upon arrival at his destination.
