Kate Walsh and ex-husband Alex Young ended their brief marriage with the help of a coin toss. When their divorce was finalized last month, their settlement, reached in February, revealed the two would use a coin toss to decide who got the first pick of community property.
Walsh, currently featured in the TV drama Private Practice and Young, film producer and former 20th Century Fox executive, were married in September 2007; Young filed for divorce in November 2008, citing irreconcilable differences. The couple has agreed not to disclose details of their marriage.
The furniture and artwork listed as community property was divided by alternating choice, with a coin toss determining who would go first.
Young will also receive $627,000, as well as half of Walsh's residual income from episodes of Grey's Anatomy and Private Practice filmed during their marriage. Walsh will keep the couple's home, various bank accounts, and "the piano and the debt associated with the piano."
The couple had no children.
Walsh's TV acting career began in 1995; her first major role was on The Drew Carey Show; playing Carey's girlfriend. She started in regional theater while attending the University of Arizona, moved to Chicago, where she worked in the Chicago Shakespeare Repertory, then to New York, where she joined a comedy troupe and performed in a number of off-Broadway plays.
Upcoming releases for which Young has production credits include The A-Team, Predators, and Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps.
