North Carolina Mesothelioma Information

North Carolina is the eleventh most populous state in the nation. While agriculture is still the primary industry in North Carolina, the state also manufactures textiles, machinery, electronics, computers, and chemical products. In the past, heavy manufacturing industries such as these have been associated with asbestos exposure and, therefore, asbestos-related diseases. Furthermore, mesothelioma is often misdiagnosed, and the disease was not officially tracked as a cause of death by the federal government until 1999. The actual number of North Carolina mortalities caused by asbestos is likely much higher. The number of reported mesothelioma cases doubled the year the federal government started tracking the deadly form of cancer.
