Utah Asbestos Mesothelioma

Mesothelioma is a deadly form of cancer that is caused by exposure to asbestos, a naturally occurring fiber that can be found in ultramafic and serpentine rocks. People can be exposed to the dangerous fiber after asbestos-containing rocks are crushed due to development and construction, or if the rock undergoes extreme weathering and erosion. However, in the majority of asbestos exposure cases, people breathe in the fibers while at work, or in a smaller percentage of cases, in their homes.

High Risk Asbestos Exposure

By the early 1900s, asbestos fibers could be found in various products, including those used to build homes, buildings, and cars. Asbestos fibers are resilient and heat resistant, and many companies began to use the material in the manufacturing of products. By the 1920s, workers and medical professionals began to notice an increased incidence of mesothelioma cancer among employees that worked in fields that used the material. Unfortunately, use of the product was not completely banned by the U.S. Environmental Agency until 1989.
